Ever wondered how “The Mandalorian” was made? Or what’s needed to bring film crews back to work in the safest environment possible? Join Shop Member Erik Weaver of the USC School of Cinematic Arts for a behind-the-scenes look at how production teams are adapting and leveraging technology to allow film work to resume safely during COVID-19. Erik will share clips from the short film “Ripple Effect” as a real-world example of how virtual reality software and game engine technologies are impacting Hollywood.
Erik is a specialist focused on the intersection of cloud and the M&E industry and is currently running special projects for the Entertainment Technology Center at USC. He has also served as chairman of NAB's Next Generation Media Technologies / Tomorrow's Tech Conference 2014-2020!

The Ripple Effect: From theory to production - an exploration of Covid-era Physical Production.
In this session we’ll do a deep dive with the team who tested critical steps to restart and continue film productions in a new world due to the COVID through a unique project called the Ripple Effect. Through the work of the The Entertainment Technology Center at the University of Southern California (ETC) and the USC School of Cinematic Arts grad students and alum, they’ll share results of the project and answer such questions as 'How do we get back to work with the majority of work now being conducted remotely?’ and 'What are the best solutions for studios to continue productions during these times?

This session gathers the prinicpal technologists and creatives behind The ETC's (Entertainment Technology Center at USC), a premiere professional graduate program for interactive entertainment, and it's latest innovation project - called "The Ripple Effect”, an exploration to answer critical questions around restarting and continuing film production during a global pandemic. We’ll learn about how production metadata played a critical role in VFX management and studio cataloging as well as managing a variety of other aspects of pre, during and post production.
